TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
2009 BOB TURNER CLASSIC

Organizers of the 7th Annual Bob Turner Classic, a 5K Run/Walk event which will take place on Saturday, May 2 at 8:00 a.m. at Turner Middle School in Berthoud, CO have announced that a percentage of the funds raised from this year’s event will benefit the Berthoud CARES Kids Helping Kids campaign.
The Bob Turner Classic is held each year in memory of Bob Turner, a Colorado educator and Berthoud native.  Turner was born (1921-2005) and raised in Berthoud, CO.  A 1939 graduate of Berthoud High School, Turner attended the University of Colorado before embarking on a career of education within the State of Colorado.  Turner was a teacher and high school principal in the communities of Littleton, Estes Park, Rocky Ford, Sterling and Greeley.  In 1969, Turner became the Director of Instruction for the Thompson School District.  In 1980, Turner was named the Superintendent of the Thompson School District and remained in that post until his retirement in 1983.
In 1981, Thompson School District completed the construction of a separate High School in Berthoud. The remaining site was converted into a middle school, which was awarded the title of Turner Middle School in recognition of Bob Turner’s contributions to education in Colorado and in honor of the Turner family, some of who were the original pioneers of the Berthoud community.
The Bob Turner Classic was established in 2003 as a way to raise additional funding for Turner Middle School and its many programs.  In 2007, the Race organizers made a decision to designate some funding to local community organizations.
Registration is open now for the May 2 Bob Turner Classic 5K Run/Walk which will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Turner Middle School, 950 Massachusetts Avenue.
Entry into the 2009 Classic is $15 per entrant until May 1 and $20 per entrant on Race Day, May 2. Every registered participant will receive a Bob Turner Classic T-Shirt and a variety of promotional coupons from participating businesses and organizations.
Everyone is invited to participate in this year’s Bob Turner Classic with the goal of making it the grandest event EVER!  Participants may choose to run or walk the route in support of the annual Classic and Berthoud CARES.
