JANUARY 15, 2007 ACCIDENT VICTIMS
Due to a tragic accident involving several Berthoud High School students on January 15, 2007, the Berthoud CARES Campaign was developed with the goal of providing information and resources for all who were involved in the accident and as a way to act as a link for those individuals who wished to provide support to those involved.

BERTHOUD CARES SUPPORTS HIDALGO FAMILY
The Hidalgo Family of Berthoud was unexpectedly blessed with spontaneous triplets (without fertility treatment). The odds of having spontaneous triplets are only 1 in 8000.
Parents Emily and Cody Hidalgo also have a toddler son and Emily provides care and support for her mother who is in recovery from a stroke. The surprise triple blessing meant triple the baby needs - diapers, wipes, formula and other supplies, as well as support for the family with meals, and extra hands to help.
The Hidalgos did not have health insurance coverage, but they did qualify for Medicare which paid for the birth. The as yet unknown, and uncovered expenses of an extended hospital stay for three babies was astronomical.
