Ian Tinney, a long-time Berthoud resident and business owner, was taken to the Emergency Room at Longmont United Hospital on May 7 with symptoms of headach, balance challenges and congnitive impairment.  The CAT scan showed that Tinney had bilateral subdural hematomas and had suffered a stroke in the brainstem area.
Tinney was rushed into surgery on May 8 to clear out the hematomas.  Drains were then placed on both sides of his brain.  He remained in the Intensive Care Unit for 2 weeks.
Tinney is still hospitalized and is involved with recovery and  intensive therapy that will assist in his abilities to regain function and independence.  His is working with a team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech thereapists and swallowing therapists.  Once he progresses in each therapy, he will be discharged to an acute rehabilition facility with the goal of continuing present therapy and expanding on other therapy that is needed for his total recovery.
"This is the hardest work that I have ever done," whispers a weak but determined Tinney.  His family is hopeful that he will keep his positive attitude throughout the healing process which will take many months of daily sessions.
Tinney and his sons have worked together at Berthoud Standard for the past 8 years.  This auto repair shop has been the sole source of income for the Tinney family.  Due to Ian's current medical condition, he can no longer run the business and Berthoud Standard will be closing soon.
As an independent businessman, Tinney has no medical insurance.  His recent hospitalization and rehab bills are mounting by the day and the Tinney family has no resources to cover the hospitalization and rehab bills, that are monting on a daily basis.
Many friends of the Tinney family are joining together to assist in the development of an organized effort to raise funds that will defray a portion of Ian's medical bills and offer other additional support to Ian and his family as they all recover from this major financial blow.
Berthoud CARES is hopeful that you will join the campaign to Help Ian Tinney in the days ahead.  Any and all support will be greatly appreciated by the Tinney's and your Berthoud neighbors.
