Zach Dunkelberger

Berthoud CARES is saddened to report that Zach Dunkelberger lost his battle to cancer on October 3, 2011. We hope that you will join with us in paying tribute to his family.
Zach's Story
In December 2010 Zach Dunkelberger, of Berthoud, was diagnosed with a Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The "official" name is "Malignant Peripheral Neuro Sheath Tumor" or MPNST. The tumor was on his right foot, and discovered after removal to be very malignant.
The Doctors decided on an aggressive form of Treatment which will include Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, and Surgery.
Zach was very outdoors oriented. He loved to mountain bike and dirt bike. Fishing and hunting were also listed high on his list! Camping went without saying. He was looking forward to going to Bicycle Mechanics School after he graduated from Berthoud High School. Zach also liked to play the guitar and was playing with a garage band in Berthoud.
After he has recovered from his cancer treatment, Zach wanted to become a volunteer at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, where he was treated. He looked forward to helping other children going through cancer treatments and planned to spend time with them, talking and playing with them while they are undergoing the various therapies associated with their cancer treatments.
